The Government of Canada is co-developing Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committees (IAMC) for the Line 3 and TMEP projects in response to strong interest from Indigenous communities to play an enhanced role in ensuring the projects are developed in a safe and transparent manner, and meet all regulatory requirements and project specific conditions. In co-developing the IAMCs, the Government acknowledges and respects the unique connection Indigenous communities have to the land and respects the constitutionally protected interests they have in their traditional territories. The IAMCs will be co-developed over the first few months of 2017, through a series of workshops with Indigenous communities that will provide important opportunities to share information, better understand each others’ interests, and build consensus on an IAMC approach for each project.
